I was in your position about 4 years ago. After significant internet travel, I still refer to the following 3 websites.
1) www.guitarforbeginners.com - Kirk Lorange does the best job I've seen so far of breaking down the basics into understandable modules. It covers everything from guitar anatomy to beginning basic theory. The message board is a good source to find people with the same questions you will have. He also has an outstanding book for when you get a litte more advanced. www. thatllteachyou.com.
2) www.guitarnoise.com - Outstanding beginner, intermediate, and advanced articles as well as specifics on how to play some popular songs
3) www.guitarweek.com - good printable lessons

learn how to read tabs and got to tab sites learn how to play songs chords and the different scales practice like 30 minutes a day taking lessons can help u a lot

Indeed I do, I also started about 3 days ago, but I am catching on really fast because of my previous 5 years of violin playing.

Websites? They don't teach you guitar! Find an expert locally who will show you the ropes.

i dont think you can learn how to play the guitar on a website but there are some cool websites that give you advice on how to chage strings and tune it.......GOOD LUCK
