Generally, sequels are worse than the original because they're most often inspired only by the thought of cashing in on an already popular premise so the studio can make an easy profit.
I don't really consider the Lord of the Rings movies to be sequels because they were all made at the same time, so it's really just one VERY long movie.
Otherwise, for the most part, Hollywood is driven by cash flow, not plot or character quality, so when a movie turns out to be profitable, executives make a haphazard attempt to repeat the process to put some cash in their pockets. The flaw in the logic, of course, is that what draws us to movies is the quality of stories and characters, and not so much the name recognition.
On the other hand, the Star Wars "prequels" made a lot of money, so they could be on to something.

Usually the first is better because it's new. The first try, have to go all out. Then with the sequel, you have to go all out and more.
The only sequels I've liked thus far are the Lord of the Rings ones (essentially, they are one piece in three different parts) and the Harry Potter films. I'm still torn between deciding whether the second "Pirates" film was better than the first.

Most of the time I only really like the first movie, with the exception of Back to the Future. The second was was a little better than the first.

I think the first movie be good. Sometimes when the second movie do come out it be better then the first one. Or sometimes they both be good like X Men and X Men 2.

i think the longer they delay the sequel the worse it will be because of the interest. I think thats why zorro 2 didnt do very well with the plubicity. But i thought it was a good movie.

First movies are always the best, a lot of sequels suck actually.

Shrek 2 was slightly better...characters, music. But I do like them both, cause without the original you couldn't have two!

i think its the 1st movie because when you watch it, it's all new.
but i sometimes like the sequels too cuz its the continuation of the story

Second Movies almost always suck, thats why there is never a 3rd, or if there is it is very rare.
