So you understand a Unibody is were the shell not the frame of the vehicle is a complete unit. Most vehicles now days are unibodies. An esy way to tell if a vehicle is a Unibody check if the rear fenders or the front fenders detach. I can tell you there are two categories complete unibodies like your miata or Rearplete unibodies where the rear is part of the main shell. Yes any vehicle can be fixed maybe yours is not worth fixing, I mean is a 1990 the insurance would rather give you the $500 is worth than spend a few thousands fixing it.

You are correct. The Mazda Miata is definitly a "unibody" design. Unibody is the combination of the body and frame on a car. In the past with cars and currently with pick-ups and some SUVs, the body i.e. passenger compartment, truck bed, are mounted to a frame. A unibody basicly uses a reinforced floor pan and mounts the side panels and roof to that. As far as repairs ar concerned, that would all depend on the amount of damage.
