No where does it say that the government is suppose to provide it, the employer only provides it because it benefits them. The real answer would that we need to stop B.S. law suit towards Doctor, their not GOD. If that would happen their M.P. insurance would be lower and so would the cost of medicine. Then everyone could supply their own, and set it up the way they want it. Personal responsibility.

I believe that the taxpayers money should be used to pay for healthcare to assure that every person regardless of statice is able to acquire the medical needs that they have. In this day and age there is no reason for people to be denied decent healthcare. If politicians stopped spending tax dollars on such unnessessary things as taking their whole families along on private jets everytime they have an important government meeting or social event the money could be put towards much more important issues. This is just one small example of wasted taxpayers money. ( a problem that every country faces with their government) Healthcare should be considered a neccessary service and not a privalege that only the wealthy have access to. A healthier population means a more productive population. As a Canadian I maybe am not at liberty to answer this question but even though we have a health care system it is not without it's faults either ...and yes in most provinces we still have to pay a monthly fee but no one is turned away simply because we can't afford healthcare. Our basic needs are met. It has been proven that although it costs the government money to assure basic healthcare for everyone, it evens out in the end due to less sick days being taken off from work, less people on assistance because of medical problems etc. My young son and I both have high medical costs that would be way beyond our means if we lived elsewhere. All I can really say is that the system ( although not faultless) works here. Incidently half of my siblings are American citizens ( we have duo citizenship ) so I am familiar with the the system there and some of the hardships they have faced when confronted with a serious illness in the family.
( please excuse spelling errors...spellcheck is not working.)

depends... any would be acceptable... as long as it is provided...

but the problem is... the current health insurance companies and health care providers (both medicine, doctors, hospitals, etc.) are pricing themselves out of the means of the majority of America...and it's increasing at an alarming rate annually...

the cost of insurance and the number uninsured grow every year... my health insurance has gone up dramatically since 2000 (probably an average of 5-8 percent every year) while my coverage has decreased in the same period... and the only time I have ever been in the hospital was to be born...

with insurance, the medical costs have gone TOTALLY OUT OF CONTROL... it's a business now... profit rules over life and people are dying because of it... is that the American way? Is that Christian?

EDIT:
it just depends on how you want to set up the system... I think some governments provide it and it works (Sweeden and Canada may not be perfect, but I've heard more raves about their system than about ours), and some have it privately provided and it works (which I think it was working decently well in the U.S. in the 70s,80s and into the 90s for the most part)....but it doesn't matter who provides it... if the system is broke, it won't work...

I mean if we elect our officials and ask them to provide us with health care, then it is their responsibility... if we don't, then it is our own... it's America, we're free to make our decisions...

From my moderate side, it is pretty simple: if we want to remain a powerful global force then we need to be a 'healthy' nation. An old saying comes to mind, 'if you don't have your health, you don't have anything.'

And to add insult to injury, sometimes when you do get a job that has health insurance, they won't cover a pre-existing condition. Or how about when you have been paying for health insurance for years then suddenly get a chronic condition and they then cancel your insurance because... you used it.. Go figure that one, ya know.

From my far left extreme liberal point of view, I believe pharmacy and insurance company owners are all going to burn in hell! LOL Why? Because they are making record profits off of other ppl being sick while watching ppl die everyday because they can't afford healthcare.

Right now the current system just is not working... so many ppl uninsured that if they got very ill they would just literally die with things that could save their life right around the corner from them. It's just inhumane in my opinion.

Now, to actually answer your question. :) Based on my moderate and liberal views both, I think the government has a responibility to 'provide' not 'insure' us. It is to the betterment of our society that they do this. Not only for health reasons, as I stated first, but also for humane reasons in our 'supposed' civilized nation.

I say provide and not to just give us insurance because insurance companies have proven they are corrupt. At least if the government provides healthcare, cost can be regulated. Regulation would also eliminate some of the insane cost and corruption within the medical field.

It is the individual's responsibility.
Health insurance didn't even really come about until after WWII when it was added to many of the jobs in order to attract workers who were returning from the war.
And then LBJ started in with the "great society" and started giving away health insurance to elderly and poor people.
As a result, health care costs have soared and many people have a hard time affording it.
So if you want to fix the problem, you should not add to government programs, as this will only make the costs go higher. If you did away with government sponsored health care and even with employer provided insurance, competitiion alone would bring the costs down.

Doctors'. The real question is who should pay? And if you think American medicine is an exercise in free enterprise, it is already way past your bedtime. Look, folks, it would cost us medical consumers far less if there were 1000 more medical schools turning out competent physicians who only expected to make a living rather than a killing. This is simple supply and demand.

It is a personal choice, in america there has always been the idea of individual freedom and choice. Plus a free enterprise system, where price controls and socialism was not a forced policy

it is no one responsibility if you want it you work for it and you pay for it and it is not cheep we are a family of 2 and we pay over a 125.00 dollars a week for it but we need it it should be free to everyone and to all children and the elderly no one should have to choose between food and health care for such a rich soiled country we let our people suffer needlessly our government should be ashamed oh I forgot they get theres for free
