What, support my local Starbucks, Radio Shack, Tower Records?

There isn't any more local economy to support.

Why won't people shut up about it?

Local economy - Farmers markets, Garage Sales, you can decide if you want to shop at a store that at least has its head quarters in your own country vs some other country... there are always smaller restaurants etc and independant stores but if they goods they are selling were not purchased locally it doesnt much matter because only about 50% of the money you spend in those stores will stay local - the rest goes to where ever the goods are manufactured..

what they mean is your local merchants in order to keep them from going out of business from major chains. the important local economy is the mom and pop places that have been here for a long time getting pushed out by corporate giants. the local economy is not what most think anymore. research is showing that over 70 percent of purchases are on-line now. the rat race of the malls and shopping is coming more to a end as everything is being done on-line more everyday.

What they mean by that, is that for these local - community orientated businesses to stay open,(landscaping, lawn mowing, tv repairers local deli etc.....) they need you and the wider community to buy from them and use their businesses so that they can continue to operate......and dont say you cant it only costs a few bucks here and there over a period of time....to keep there businesses running.

Great question. I'll sit back and watch these answers. Who is telling you to do this? Ask them to explain what exactly do they mean?
