Figuratively, yes. Although Italy has used some questionable tactics to get to the grand finale, they did not resort to brutality to win.
Technically, no. The better skilled team did not win. Had Zidane and Henry not left the game, France would have won on penalty kicks and everyone knows that.
Put those two elements together and Italy wins.

And before you say the Italins were lucky, then I guess Brazil was Lucky to beat Italy in Penalties 12 years ago as well.
Best team one period.
Cannavaro was the best player as well. Zidane beat him out barely on votes (less than 1% difference in total votes) due to the fact it was his last farewll and he got a lot of sympathy votes as well.
