Not trying to offend anyone, but I would appreciate some input to this puzzling question.

most people think this a trick question off the bat, being able to argue either way, but i beleive there is a clear cut answer. First when we are dealing with an entity so powerful there is no limitations, things get tricky, but well not really :) heheheh when your power has no limits, it comes down to what you want to happen. It would be from gods perspective what he does, he could lift any boulder he wanted to, also he could create a boulder that he could not lift as well. He is so powerful and limitless he can put any property into any object and change them at will. So if god wanted to, when he reached for that boulder and says "Well no way I can lift this, i created it ot be unliftable" he will not be able to lift it. Trick with this question is, we arrogant about what god wants and focuses too much on his power and not on his choice of lifting or not.

I don't think this is a silly question. It's a natural one. Sort of like asking, "If Jesus lived in times when virtually everybody had lice, did Jesus have lice?" You are really wanting to know the parameters and attributes of what or whom we call God.

I think of God as at least an intelligent being, therefore I talk about him as a person. I believe God keeps his own rules. Everywhere in the known universe are the same elements and the same rules of physics and chemistry apply. So God keeps these rules. When he performs a miracle, he simply is using physical and chemical laws we don't know about yet, not breaking laws and making exceptions. After all, how many things we ordinarily do and use would be considered miracles back in Jesus' time? And miracles still happen, because we don't know it all yet, either.

If God is both logical and keeps rules, he does not get into the puzzles such as the one you present. Whenever you hear such puzzles, such as "what happens when an unstoppable object meets an immovable one", what you are really hearing is a word puzzle. Playing around with words: definitions and juxtapositions. Take any two opposites, or half of any reaction, and create a puzzle: what is the sound of one hand clapping? If a tree falls and there is no one to hear, did it make a sound? Well, it depends on your definition of "sound", doesn't it? Surely the same vibrations were there, whether it vibrated an inner ear or not.

So what you have asked is, if "god" (undefined), can do "anything" (undefined), is it "possible" (undefined), etc. These are words. People mix up the words and the concepts all the time. They aren't the same. The short answer is no, if god did that, he would break his own rules and would cease to be god. But also yes, you could make a word-story in which god did that, by including it in your definition of "anything", for example.

How can God make something greater than himself when he is the greatest thing in existence? No, God can't make a boulder he cannot lift.

If you consider Jesus to be God manifest in the Flesh (1Tim 3:16), then the answer would be yes. God in Spirit form made things that the flesh part of him could not physically pickup.
For instance, he raised Lazarus, but could not roll the stone away. (John 11:39) He said, "Take ye away the stone."

Hahahahaha....Yes, I suppose he could do that, but then he could give himself some more super powers and be able to lift it again. That's like a good game for God, eh?

He's not trying to offend you either. Why don't you get to know Him, and He'll be able to help you understand that we are finite and He is infinite, so your question has no relevance to and Almighty God.
