Thanks for putting the Zizou incident out of the question for your question. I'm sure someone will bring it up, though.
I think they were issuing many cards, esp round 1 - I would say even "card-happy" -
but to give the benefit of the doubt to refs and players, the rules were modified before the wc so I think many players were not used to playing that way. The freq of cards did go down after 2nd round. Also, i think some refs were taken the rules down to the letter while others used better judgement.

Yes, that is true. I have been watching the FIFA World Cups 2006 also. The refferees were isuing the yellow/red cards to one team alot because they liked the other team better. It isn't fair but the refferees still do that.

I hope that in 2010 they change that. There were way troo many cards issued this time around. I also think that some refs were getting some extra $$$$$ for that though.

in the beginning they had way too many, but they finally got a clue and started reffing right. but it was just too late, some teams mightve gone a lot farther if those cards hadnt been a problem.

i don't know may be if you change the regulation to this
red card means you hit somebody and they bleed.
yellow card means you get a banana LOL (just kidding)
