My daughter will be one month old the 11th and she hasnt taken a fooler this whole time, but the other day her Grandmother (my boyfriend's mom) gave her one without my consent while babysitting now she is constantly fussy because she wants it, but I don't want to give it to her i feel like thats just saying "hey shut up" and also its just another thing to break her from later on...but in the mean time what should i do to take her mind off it?

I felt the same way when my daughter was a newborn. If you use the pacifier correctly it's a great thing for your baby. A baby's natural instinct is to suck, a pacifier will help with teaching them to self soothe. If your baby is not hungry, or doesn't need a diaper change or is not too hot or cold then give her a pacifier, it will help her calm down with out it being like "shut up". listen to your baby before you put the pacifier in her mouth and I promise you, you won't be telling her to shut up. I only use a pacifier at nap and bedtime with my 9 month old. When she's 1 I am going to work on giving her a stuffed animal and see if she will fall asleep with that instead of the pacifier. Just think of it as a tool to self soothe and she will be a happy little girl.

By the way you sound like a great Mom!!!

by fooler you must mean Pacifier or binki.... It is just something to pacify the baby with. It isn't telling your kid to shut up.. it is something that stimulates them. Most children find it quite soothing to suck on a pacifier. And It Calms most of them down. Just don't let your child use it too long. Or when their teeth start coming in they might not come in aligned.

If you think that your baby is crying for a pacifier, she's not. Babies don't start getting used to things until they're about 9 months old or so. My daughter used a pacifier until her 9th month and I had no problem taking it from her. Maybe she needs a little more formula or she's gassy, but trust me, she didn't get used to the pacifier from a one time use.

Let her snack on cheerios or other finger foods to get her mind off of it. Oh my god I'm sorry. I read your question wrong. I thought it said that she'll be 11 months. what about a toy if she can hold one. My kids never would take to a pacifier so I don't know how to break them.

fooler=pacifier

when my daughter was born the hospital gave her one.she was in and out of the hospital for about the first 3 months of her life.And of course that one got lost i got her another one and she hated it,tried 5 or 6 more could not find one she wanted.So when she started getting fussy I would just pick her up talk to her and she'd be fine.she never really took a fooler.

your child has a natural rooting response, by using a passy, binki, or fooler, it help stimulate this response,, I find that childeren that aren't allowed this rooting response are more likely to eat more often and have colic like symtoms and this can be tough on a nursing mother, these items are pretty easy to break from around a year old or so, it takes about a week. please to not give her any solid foods yet, her throat is too small for these items and she can choke on them. also her system can not handle anything other than brestmilk or formula right now.

it is just security for the baby, keeps her amused.... shes only a month..shes bored as sin!!! yah, it may be something you have to break her of in a year or two, but cross that bridge when you get to it....she may ot even care about it in 6 moths, whne shes crawling, and being entertained other ways. Your not a bad mom for letting her have one. I tried to force both my kids to take one, they werent interested...lucky me....but not all kids are the same.... it will make life easier....no it wont make her have braces when she is older either..... shes a baby, if she wants it let her have it!!!!

there is no harm in giving your baby a pacifier, she'll be okay & worrying about breaking her from this later on should be the least of your worrys. enjoy her whlie she's still little, they grow up too fast.
