Is it great clouds of steam? Or just a little bit, especially just after you start the engine or when it's idling?
If it's big clouds, you may have a cracked block, head, intake manifold or a blown cylinder head gasket.
If it's just a little bit, it's normal. Part of the byproduct of combustion is water vapour. Until the exhaust system heats up, it will condense a bit and show up as a small amount of steam at the tailpipe.
Since you said that it's losing water, the first thing I would suspect is a blown cylinder head gasket. A mechanic can run some tests and determine the most likely cause.

If it's losing water from the radiator, you either have a blown head gasket or a cracked block. Either way, if the radiator is losing water, water is making its way into the combustion chambers and out thru the exhaust. The catalytic converter gets extremely hot to eliminate any unburned fuel vapors, and this converter is actually vaporizing the antifreeze.
A cylinder pressure test could determine if you have a blown head gasket or not.
A radiator pressure test could determine or eliminate possible problems with your engine block or cylinder head.

Sounds like a head gasket.Did the engine overheat on you?Have a good shop check it out for you to confirm it first tho.Best way to do this is by removing all of the spark plugs and one by one pressurize each cylinder while watching the radiator for signs of the coolant level either suddenly rising up or bubbles visible in the radiator opening.A lot of work and expense if diagnosed incorrectly.Good luck.

Sounds like coolant is somehow getting into the combustion chamber, could be head gasket or intake manifold gasket. I would seek professional assistance immediately as this could result in enough fluid loss to cause overheating and or worse problems. Good Luck

Oh, don't get me started on Nissans...I just spent almost $1400 fixing my 90 Sentra.
It could mean you are burning oil?
I have found more times than not, when I go go the Nissan Dealer to get repairs, they wind up screwing other things up. Like the time they cut the wire to my alternator, and I got stuck on I-95 during rush hour traffic. Bastards.

white =water=possible head gasket, check your coolant level and the condition of your oil in crankcase, pray you do not see MILKSHAKE like substance on dipstick ,losing water is a bad sign too,as long as you don't find milkshake you can drive a while but it will only get worse and you run risk of HYDRO-STATIC compression (water will NOT compress) and snapping rods and or warping heads
