Ive had Anne for about five months and she hardly ever comes out. I know she eats and she drinks every once in awhile. I give her "baths", that is usually when she comes out (for about 5 minutes). The temperature and humidity level are always within range. She has plenty of room to wander and even a climing background but she just lays there. Have any ideas of why and what i can do?

Hello,

For the most part Land Hermit Crabs Are nocturnal.. more than likley she is lonely because Hermit Crabs thrive in colonies in the wild and are not lone creatures they require at least one tank mate to thrive and be active. We have 48 on site right now and they are active all the time in the day and at night.

Baths also are known to cause stress and is not recommended anylonger. Provide large water sources within the tank and she can flush her shell and bathe when SHE wants to. She must have both fresh and oceanic/marine salt de-chlorinated waters.

She maybe stressed anticipating a bath evertime she comes out so she decides to hunker down to avoid a bath.

Not sure what food you offer her, but lots of fresh fruit and veggies as well as meat and fish will give her a boost, as well as some organic raw honey.

See land hermits do not thrive when over hadled.. and require a hands off approach to their care and keeping. Land hermits and not play with kind of pets... kind of have to think of them as fish.. no petting or taking out of the tank to play with them and then they will live for years.

Hi, What climate is it over where you are living, because in Winter, Hermit crabs can die because it is too cold for them, by putting a low heat light over the top of its tank can keep your hermit crab warm.

I hope this helped you.

If you bought your hermit crab from a petstore, it is most likely to be already sick. It is not your fault. Maybe you should get him another hermit crab.

I've had about 15 hermit crabs, and none of them are very active. Perhaps hermit crabs are nocturnal?

Its a crab! It is not active anyway. Yours seems plenty active for a crab. Want more activity, buy a mammal
