Technically, Mardi Gras means Fat Tuesday. But modern revelers have changed the translation to mean "look! i have boobies! now throw me some beads!"
Actually, folks get so drunk at Mardi Gras that it turns into a giant Girls Gone Wild video.

for Americans this is still daring ,so people who get drunk enough to pluck up the courage do it at festivals like the Mardi Gras,
America must be getting more conservative with time

well it originated in france. its the festival the roman catholics would do before lent started (thhats the thing when they are sup[post to be the purrest as much as they can be for 40 days) and so this was a way for them to sin all they want and then get forgiven the next day. it was just a thing someone created to have a party and commit as many sins as they want and get pardoned the next day.
and today just everyone celebrates it
