You are lucky to have weather that is warm enough to go to the beach at this time of year!
I have heard that tomatoes are good, the juice that is. Aparently you just cut one in half and rub it over the burn.
The best thing though is cold water as in the end it is a burn on the skin and cold water is the best thing for that apart from the medical type substances available

Aloe Vera is a life saver. You can buy it at Wal-Mart, Walgreen's, CVS Pharmacy, a dollar store, etc. You can get it in a bottle or buy an aloe vera plant. I take aspirin too. My source has a TON of stuff on there. You may have sun sickness, so it is possible that you'll feel badly for a few days.

Hop in a cold shower, but not so cold to give yourself a shock! Once you're skins a little numbed off from the pain, rub hair conditioner on the burnt skin and let it sit for a few minutes. Then rinse off gently with cool water and blot your burnt skin dry. The conditioner seems to restore some moisture, and it will keep you from peeling as bad!
Trust me on this, I'm Irish... I burn taking out the garbage!

I know it may smell but I am a very fair skinned person and have found that if I put vinegar on a paper towel and gently put it on my sunburn that it helps with the pain and helps to cool it.

first, take a lot of water. you have to hydrate yourself so you can cool. avoid diuretics like coffee.
then, chill some cucumbers. cut these up and place them on the affected area. if you have an aloe vera plant, cut some and apply the jelly like substance on the affected area.
also, wear clothes of soft fabric so that affected skin will not get irritated.
and lastly, please, the next time, you go to the beach, do not toast yourself too much. it is not healthy.
