He had around 5 million $ a season at Renault, he asked for 25 mil. $ and he got turned down; McLaren were willing to give him that sum of money and he signed a 3-year deal. The announcement was made on 19th December 2005.

Fernando makes about 3 million pounds with Renault. The same amount Fisi makes. But contrary to what people have been saying, the move was not about the money. And Mclaren chief Ron dennis has backed that. Mclaren were able to quarantee Alonso a future whilst Renault were unsure they would still be competing past 2007. He will earn 3x or more the amount he earned with Renault.

Renault didn't pay much for the new world champion. His salary is no higher than a football player last season. I'm sure Renault had to pay more to keep FA in the team this season.

i dunno about renault. but mclaren usually pays it's big stars 15-20 million dollars a year.
