Well, Studies have shown that life started with a single cell organism. This was figured by the adaptation that they grew to multiple cells which were mammals. So the correct answer would be "The chicken came before the egg.

Since you don't specify that "the egg" is a chicken egg and not some other kind of egg, like say, a dinosaur egg, I can easily deduce that "the egg" did indeed come before the chicken.

According to Aristotle, actuality takes precedence over potentiality. Since eggs become chickens but chickens do not become eggs (they lay them, they don't become them), therefore an egg is a chicken in potentiality but a chicken is a chicken in actuality. Therefore, the chicken came first (takes precedence).
