The term RV cam was popularized in the late 70's to describe cams with sane duration but high at that time lift the best examples are comp cams HIGH ENERGY cams ,they were developed to add low end grunt and not kill mileage like early high performance cams did .in those days BIGGER WAS BETTER loo at some of the profiles that are still available in chevy catalouge (LS-7 and L-88 big block cams) they were unstreetable and would not build vacume so no power assisits-so RV cams were born -it just stands for recreational vehicle
