Every time Al-Quaida claims an attack in Iraq they validate what Bush said "We have to crush the terroists where they originate, so as to make American citizens safer."

If Iraq had pineapples or was in South America we wouldn't be there. The US was lead into this war by two very powerful special interest groups. Big Oil and the Jewish/Israeli promoters. Saddam was not a threat to us in the short term and was definitely not connected with Al Queda except in a loose way. However, the long term control of access to oil was a major factor behind the invasion. And the continual manipulation of our Middle Eastern foreign policy by Israel and their quasi American wealthy Jewish supporters.

We now have a situation where oil prices have risen dramatically and will continue to rise because of our bungled attempt to control the major region of output. Add to that the literally millions of people who now hate our guts because of our 50 plus years of backing the Israelis in their program of genocide against the Palestinians.

It is no longer a question of how long we will need to remain in Iraq to "control" the area. It is more a matter of what the ultimate damage will be to us both in terms of money and, more important, the detrimental changes to our society. Do you really think we are safer now than immediately after 9/11? How much longer until the next attack which will probably be far larger and deadlier in scope? Is gasoline cheaper now than 3 years ago and what is the forseeable future for prices? When can we expect the Patriot Act to suddenly change direction and begin targeting "undesireable" Americans who practice politically uncorrect behavior? If our fight against Al Queda et al is so important and if we really are devoting all our best efforts then why has absolutely nothing been done to seal off our southern border? And, last but not least, if we are so committed to bring freedom and democracy to the Middle East than why do we continue to provide the worse source of government sponsered terrorism, Israel, with literally billons of tax payer dollars and weapons of war to enslave their neighbors in the name of Zionism?

Good luck with your fight against evil. You may find it to be like the classic story of every time you strike down an enemy three more rise in his place.

Hmmm what was Tim McViegh? How about Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris?

Other than the desire to destroy the infidels Muslims are pretty decent people by and large.

There is a lot to be said for the US' involvement in that area to retain influence over resources. We've propped up governments in the short term with no thoughts on the long-term effects. In the 80s when Saddam was killing Iranians we were Iraq's best buds.

Bush and the misguided advise he received (and Clinton before him and Reagan... and so on...) yeah we're on a crusade to wipe out terror.

Inconsistency is a factor in our democracy... I often laugh at our efforts to teach Iraq the fine art of democracy - even though our practice over here seethes with cash as an influence and sometimes outright corruption...

But then I figure fighting over there makes for a juicy target and it keeps the action off our "homeland" streets - I just wish if we are going to be there we'd go all out with the resources. There is no reason our boys don't have the armor they need or number of troops to make it a conclusive effort instead of nickle and dime police action.

It seems to me that the answers reflect more apples and oranges than pineapples. I have not forgotten 9/11 and will never forget the impact it had on my country.... This gave us more than a reason to go to Afghanistan, etc...where terrorist exist or threats exist. I remember President Bush saying "you're either for us or against us", by that statement alone we should be involved in more than Iran/Afghanistan. Terrorism could not exist on its present level if not hidden and supported by countries such as Pakistan, Syria, Lebanon, Iraq, Iran....etc. What really gets to me is those who defend these countries.....they certainly would not defend us. Oil is an excellent tool to draw people away from the real problems that exist; after all, oil is power and it seems the terrorist hold it and some are willing to allow them to continue to exploit and use revenues to fund terrorist acts against America and the rest of the world. Amazing!

dumbass, if we had left them alone in the FIRST PLACE, they wouldn't have problems with us. Yes their ideals are different. However the reason the terrorist nations hate the US so much is because of the fact that we are pushing democracy down their throats and our own ideals. Half the world wants us to leave them the *** alone. If we had not encroached on THEIR territory, then they wouldn't have so much hate for the US.. "Open your ******* ears, jackass."
