When I was in college (a good many years ago), one of my best friends was a national officer of the Collegiate Council for the United Nations, which (in those days) sponsored the Model UN.
I wish I had participated more actively. It was a really good experience. Why?
(1) You get to know a lot about current world issues, and you learn how to keep yourself informed as an adult voting citizen.
(2) You learn to see world problems from the point of view of other nations. How badly that's needed in this global civilization.
(3) You get practice expressing your views publicly.
(4) You learn how badly some things are covered in local newspapers and on television and radio. There are so many things we need to know and won't learn from these mainstream media.
(5) You make lots of friends among interesting people, not only in your own school but from other participating institutions.
And, oh, by the way, it gives you something valuable to put in your applications for college, scholarships, and jobs. You might even become an ambassador or other foreign diplomat one of these days--and travel all over the world. Even Tahiti, or the Fiji islands!
My good friend just died recently--quite unexpectedly. But what a rich, full life he lived! What a great impact he had on others!
Give it a try! It's at least as important as hard abs. Maybe more so in the long run. Take care.
Peace!

We had a model UN in high school. However, I think that kids of that age arent really informed enough or havent had enough life experiences to truely understand things that go on in the world.~
