Simply, something that affects all the vehicle lighting. That is to say start a point in the circuit where all systems, headlights / running lights, etc. meet. Like the headlight switch. If the brake lights do not work as well. It is a problem closer to the battery, as they are mutually exclusive from the rest of the exterior / interior light circuits.
I assume that it has a good battery and it cranks, runs, and other electrical accessories are OK.

Try a blown fuse but i would suspect a missing earth as lights are normally wired to work front left back right so when a fuse goes you have get you home lights . try a wire off the back of the light switch , or suspect the switch itself.

Check your light fuses, if the fuses check good then your light switch is bad.
Good Luck

some electrical systems route all their lights through the head light switch, or the turn signal switch (if its one of those with wiper functions on it). but yea, i'd start with the fuses.
