how do i open a butterfly knife properly?

You hold both ends down, blade towards palm
Flip outside handle back
Spin knife around 180
Flip blade with outside handle back, this is why you need the blade in to begin. If you have blade facing out, when you spin it around the blade will hit the back of your hand
Flip blade and outside handle back down to your hand
