I think that's total BS. What about my ancestors being Jewish and leaving Europe a little before WWII? What about everyone whose ancestors lost everything in the Great Depression? What about people who are poor and exploited NOW?
I see no reason why my tax dollars should be given to people who probably need them less than I do (given that my net income this year is under $3000) simply because their skin is the same color as the people who were oppressed over a century ago by people whose skin is the same color as mine. Tax distribution based on skin color is flat out racist, no matter who the money's going to.
By all means give government money to people who have actually been wronged, give it to people who need it, but don't take money away from already failing schools, hospitals, and government programs to compensate people for the color of their skin.

It's similar in Australia. And we have a Sorry Day where we are meant to apologies to Aboriginies for something our Ancestors did! I'm not racist. I want to be treated on an equal basis, cos they get better treatment!
But anyway, I think it's rubbish. If it were back in the time when the people who were slaves are still alive, then yes, I believe they should be compensated. But not when everyone involved has passed on. It will just be a free ticket, and another reason for equality to go out the window.
If they really want equality, then everyone should get compensated. The convicts who got sent to Australia for example.
There's no such thing as equality. Everyone wants it better than everyone else. I say leave the past where it is, it's only gunna cause more tension between the races.

I think that if we have to compensate the black in America for their ancestors being slaves, than we should demand that Italy pay most of the world money for the Romans enslaving the world. It is just stupid. How about the Irish who were indentured servants that were usually worked to death so that the owner would not have to let the servant go free. How about the underground slavery going on today. If the blacks would just stop playing the victim and listening to idiots who say they are trying to help them and help help themselves it would be better. I have talked with a black friend at work who says that most black communities would rather keep everyone down than allow anyone to succeed.

I personally don't see what good it could possibly do, not to mention the fact that there could be numerous white people whose ancestors were slaves; logically, they should receive money as well.

Only if they will return to Mother Africa. If we're going to have to pay the bastards we might as well get something out of it. I didn't enslave them, other Africans did. They ought to kick in half and give them a place to live.

That happened a long time ago, and we have no responsibility now for what our forefathers did.
