Can an artist have their own record label, along with a studio in their house?

Yes. http://www.RickshawRecords.com is my 1 man, 1 dog label and "studio" in my home in San Diego.

All you need is a computer, some good audio software, a few decent microphones, and lots of cables. Oh yea, lots of time too.

I record all my guitars with virtual amps (POD, V-Amp, etc.) so it's not so loud.

As long as you abide by your local zoning laws to have a business in your house and get all the proper "papers", I would say you have a winner!
