I love poetry. My favorite poet is Pablo Neruda because he said things like:
"But death also goes through the world dressed as a broom, lapping the floor, looking for dead bodies,
death is inside the broom, the broom is the tongue of death looking for corpses..."
or
"Tonight I can write the saddest lines.
To think that I do not have her. To feel that I have lost her.
To hear the immense night, still more immense without her.
And the verse falls to the soul like dew to the pasture.
What does it matter that my love could not keep her.
The night is starry and she is not with me.
This is all. In the distance someone is singing. In the distance.
My soul is not satisfied that it has lost her."
Of course these are just translations from Spanish. If you are a poet, keep writing. When a poem really touches someone, they carry it around for life. Poets and poetry are the only reason God has bothered keeping us around.

Of course people read poetry. I happen to love it. I remember the first time I read a Shakespearean Sonnet; I was hooked. I went right out and bought his complete works, Dickinson, and Poe. I finished them within the year. I was seven.
I think everyone is a poet deep within. It's really about expression, which I believe constitutes purposeful existence for man; a discovery of meaning through expression.
I'd be glad to review your poetry sometime. :)
