I have several tips.

The weekend DOES NOT start on Thursday.
Go to EVERY class no matter how tired you may be.
ASK questions in class.
ASK questions after class.
ASK questions during your instructor or professor's office hours.
Get to know your instructor or professor. They can help you with finding a job or an internship.
DO NOT get a credit card.

And most important of all, have fun. You'll never have an opportunity like this again. All work and no play is just as bad as all play and no work. Just make sure it's more work than play. :)

As a former instructor of freshman composition, I would say that the best tip I can give a freshman college student is to do the school work at a steady pace. Leaving everything (writing, researching, reading, etc.) until the last minute will increase your stress level and lessen any opportunities for learning. Working at a steady pace will also help you keep in mind that you are studying for you - not for the class, not for the assignment, but for your education and experience.

Learn, or brush up on, the basic 'life skills'. Every young person needs to be able to balance a checkbook, cook basic meals, shop for necessities 'economically', clean their living space and do laundry. Other skills that come in handy include how to manage time (using a daily or weekly planner), how to find and schedule an appointment with a doctor...and 'how' to say NO! This last 'tip' is probably the most important. Most young people have had endless coaching on 'when' to say no, but are not really clear on the many tactful ways there are to get the point across.

Always go to class, cause when you miss one then you'll get behind and then confused.
Get Involved, join a club or group of some sort. it really helps you meet new people who'll eventually become friends.
Get to know the people on your floor.
Don't be afraid to talk to your professor, they're there to answer questions.
Keep up on your reading. don't wait until finals to read the whole book.
Make friends with people in your major. also they're great people to study with.
You have 4 years to go out, have fun, and have the time of your life. The work never ends, but college does!!!

Make the best of your college education, but have fun too. I am not saying to go out and party all the time, but to combine studying and fun together. Start a study group or something. Maybe, the same group of people can be the ones you go out to eat with. Just have a good time and good luck

GET AS MUCH SLEEP AS YOU CAN (normal hours, like 11-12 to around 8 or 9 am), because you never know when you'll need to go without it;)

Remember your purpose at school. Enjoy your time there. Be responsible. Don't make the mistake everyone makes, mess up the first year.
