Great fun to catch, and they taste great. recommendation for cooking -
1. Put the meat you intend to cook in a bowl or bucket
2. Run cold water into the bucket

It will start to almost foam when you do this. Run the water until the foaming action stops. This improves the taste a lot.
The largest I've caught is 98 pounds. I caught it at the confluence near Williston North Dakota.

they are a bottom feeder, plant eater. They also eat small plankton. They have a snout that looks like a spoon on the end as it is long and looks like a paddle. Sometimes it is called a spoonbill. They can be found in many lakes and rivers and tributaries of the midwest. You catch em by snagging them, as they don't bite on a hook. They are very tastey!
