What is up with mica based makeup?

Isn't mica just vermiculite - I thought that stuff gives you cancer like asbestos. Is it better for your skin?

Mineral makeup is good in that it doesn't have the extra preservatives that most do. Most makeup is mineral based but has a lot of other stuff in it.

Mica adds shimmer to makeup. It isn't better or worse for skin than anything else, really.
