I had a really hard time finding a job my senior year. I applied at all fast food chains and grocery stores several times. And I followed up with phone calls. But nobody was willing to hire, even though most of the businesses had help wanted signs up. Am I the only teenager who is having trouble finding their first job? My grandma tells me that I am not being discriminated against. But I believe I am; because I'm a teenager and I have no previous employment. Pls let me know if I am the only one.

No I've been there. I just got my first job after searching for 2 years. It's good to ask everyone you know because I got a job through my uncle so if you have connections you'll have a better chance also try to find places where other teens work.

Getting the first job can be the most difficult of your whole career. When you get your first job, and you will, sooner or later, stay there for a while and do your best, so that the next time you apply for a job you can show that you put in your time, learned quite a bit, and left on good terms, with good references. Hang in there!

You never gave your age. There are a lot of laws governing hiring people under the age of 18, and they get worse as you get younger.

The idea behind them is to make it hard to exploit younger people, but it does chafe.

You will see all that disappear when you turn 18. And it isn't that they are discriminating against you. They have to follow the law.

as a youth social worker, I understand how difficult it is for you these days, so many organisations are wanting experienced juniors. - how can a junior be experienced ??

especially if they are still at school.

I also like how they say , like you must have like a Truck licence or something, and say for ages like 14 - 15, how many of them would have a truck licence - heck here in australia, u cant even get a car licence till 16 1/2, so no 15yolds even drive
