Europe is awash in anti-American sentiment; is this justified? If so, why? Furthermore, how much should it matter to us what other people think of us?

It can be compared to personal life. Do you really care what everyone thinks of you? Do you make decisions in your life based on the opinions of others? You shouldn't, and The United States shouldn't either. No one ever loves the biggest kid on the block. During the cold war we were the lesser of two evils. Who was going to pick communist Russia over free The United States? Now we stand alone, at least until China catches up, as the lone "super power." Its like being a lawyer, everyone hates you until they need you.

We can not run a successful country by allowing weaker countries opinions to matter to us. We are the youngest country but the strongest. It did not happen by accident. The safety of travel does not come from the US. It is safe to travel in the USA.

We have been called upon by these "anti-American" people to rescue them in war time before. Maybe we will not be so quick to rescue them since they do not like us to use our military. It can be "Military Day Off".

We should certainly be mindful of how others view us, and try when possible to maintain good relations with the rest of the world. All things equal, it's better to be well-regarded than despised by others.

However, we should never be so concerned with the opinion of others that we hesistate to do what we know is right. If the rest of the world wants to hate us for following our deepest principles or for refusing to accept the unacceptable, that's their problem, not ours.

I dont think they should matter at all unless our decisions directly affect them or they are one of our big allies. Otherwise who cares. I couldnt care less what other countries think of us. If the world hated us so much why are we being flooded with immigrants.

enough for us to be safe traveling around the world.... usually i don't care what others think about me.... but in the case of my security and that of my family.... i want to be safe traveling as an American in Europe, Asia, or south American.... and the fact is that we are now less safe and in more peril than before 9-11 and we can thank bush for that one!!!!!!!! we can't fight terrorism with intimidation and fear.....

Ask that question again when the rest of the world starts trading in euros instead of dollars.

We should have no alliances to any country and be friendly to all countries.

Outside of that, other nations' opinions only matter if their opinion involves attacking our country.

How much do your next door neighbors opinions matter to you? How much does your opinion of them matter to you? What kind of neighborhood do you live in?
