How is the grass designed at professional athletic fields?

At some ballparks there are designs (i guess thats what you would call them) with the grass. There seems to be two colors: green and dark green. Sometimes the design is simple, like only parallel bars that go across the pitch. Other times it's more complex, like criss-crosses, and the field at this week's Baseball Allstar game in Pittsburgh (there was a big star in the center outfield).

It's done by how they mow the grass and the direction they mow it in. You can do the same thing with your own yard.
