Recording a workout disk with French theme for Bastille Day. Looking for modern (rock, pop, etc.) connected with France - about France, the French, things French, with French lyrics (even just a phrase or two, as in Beatles' "Michelle"), or by French or francophone artists.

Please, no lame jokes about freedom fries or how the U.S. saved their sorry tails or that they are Saddam lovers, blah blah blah. Not looking for a political discussion - just asking for songs and artists.

By the way, Celine Dion does not count.

Thanks!

ooooooooo, find this group: Grand Derangement

They're a group of French Canadians (Acadians, to be specific) and their style is a unique mix of celtic, rock, and folk. They have some songs that would be GREAT to work out to. These are the ones that immediately come to mind.

Danse dans les flammes
Mariette
Y a jamais eu de grand dérangement
Danse dans les flammes
Dieux de l'univers

Frere Jaques might be a good song, if you could get a techno version of it.

There is a recording used in the 1992 Winter Olympic games for the pairs short program called 'Frere Jacques/Can Can.' The skaters were Isabelle Brasseur & Lloyd Eisler. If you could get your hands on that, I bet it would be quite a novelty!

Wierd Al Yankovich has a song "Genius in France" (Kind of a Jerry Lewis tribute via a Frank Zappa sound) but probably not the type of song you're lookjing for.

Also, Moulin Rouge--Alez vou pouche avec moi(?)

The Kingston Trio has a song called Raspberries, Strawberries. You need to check that one out - it's a really excellent song. I know for sure it's on Tom Dooley & Other Hits cd.
