One time it happened after Avast installation and Spyware Doctor.
Second time with Spyware Doctor.
The keyboard is originally USB. Mouse is OK.
I managed to got in Windows, reseting the password for that user through another PC on the LAN, but keyb. still frozen. Uninstalled Avast, Spyware Doctor, mistery still unsolved.

I'm sure it's NOT the keyb. The keyb. works in BIOS, F8 options ... Only when in Windows Logon, it freezes.
Something went wrong after installation and scan of Avast and Spyware Doctor.
Anybody with similar issues here?

Stop using USB and see what happens. Attach that standerd fitting over your USB fitting, that came with your keyboard. Now hook it up to where you use to hook the keyboard in the back of your computer. You might need to go into your computers BIOS and take the keyboard out of USB but before you do that, try using the fitting first without any BIOS adjustments.

I do not like USB for both the mouse and keyboard. Personally I have had bad experiences with the USB for both mouse and keyboard. I use an old antique Gateway keyboard that you can really feel the keys and a ball mouse. In contrast I also have and use a 20.1 inch flat pannel monitor with a new blazing fast 64 bit AMD processor. Each to their own huh? Good Luck.

Edit update: This is getting serious as I read your last edit. Seeing how you understand the BIOS, try resetting it, that may not do anything but it is worth a try as that will force the BIOS to find the keyboard again. Now if it still does not work disconnect your keyboard and start your computer without the keyboard. You should be able to get into WinXP with just your mouse. Using your mouse, use the Go Back (restore) feature of XP and go back to the point before you had your problems. This maybe your USB in conflict and let me tell you USB ports in conflict can be a heart ache. I would also call Dell and go there to see if there are any BIOS updates that might address this. There are my newest idea's I hope I have helped you even a little. Good Luck.

convinced this is truly excellent in case you get in the probability-free mode and decide the administrator account then you flow to regulate panel and %. for person money owed seem for the single you want to remove the password and decide the alternative remove password reboot the computer to standard mode and difficulty resolved. about the battery this is to sparkling nvram and in case you remove the jumper the password you`ll delete is the single for the bios that's a diferent password so the in basic terms thanks to delete the LOGON is the probability-free mode.

there are 2 possibilites...first OS is not detecting it..second hardware issue...
1..if OS has some issue..we can simply test it this way....reboot your comp--press F8 and see if it works ..means it gives u option for start..if its working from here then it means that your hardware is good and you have issues with OS.
2.If its not detected then borrrow a Keyboard from your friend and see if thats detected to confirm that problem is with hardware....

hope this works...

replace your keyboard/or try your keyboard on another computer to see if it works.if not look at your connection on your computer check to see if the tongs in the end of your keyboard are straight. if so you should be ok. run a virus check. or take it to have it cleaned. and get out of safe mode. that could be your problem.

Try with a PS/2 keyboard.

Once in, run an antivirus (AVG) and anti-spyware (Spybot)
