TiVo has TiVoToGo which allows you to transfer programs to your PC. You can use either a Wifi device connected to the USB if you have a Wifi network or you can use an ethernet device connected to the USB if you have an ethernet network.

As for other DVRs, there is a FAQ on the Motorola web site on how to use Firewire (not USB) to transfer programs from a Motorola DVR such as used by Comcast to a PC with firewire.

You can record TV direct to your hard disk using a Haupuage TV card or USB stick, they do one's now that can even pick up freeview.

The input is a standard aerial jack though you can get S-video on some models.
