I think it would be nicer if he just wore a suit / tux that complimented the girl's dresses. As fun as it would be to dress him up, it might add a bit too much cheesiness to your special day.Save the cross-dressing gag for Halloween.

If you are getting married legally, with a preacher, I would think you would consult him on the idea. Whoever the officiator will be is the first person that you should consult. It is a strange practical joke that will or could bring strong offense to many people. To you it may seem funny, however, your guest may not agree. With so much riding on the sanctity of marriage these days, I would think that one would not play a joke on such a sensitive topic. There is one reason that I would think you and your future spouse would be okay with this scenario, and that is that neither of you regard marriage as sacred. I do however, respect your for actually posting this question to get a feel as to how others may view it.
You may be in an area where everyone is as (twisted) as you and that is acceptable behavior. I've heard of a lot stranger things. And ultimately yuo will do whatever you want.
I wish you well.

It's your wedding, do whatever you want to do without worrying what other people will think. If he feels comfortable dressing up as a girl to be a bridesmaid, then go for it - if you don't mind that he might take some of the attention from you. He's your friend and he should be on your side...if not in a dress then maybe in a rented tux or suit the same color as the other bridesmaids.

I'd advise against it. Even though it may sound funny, your wedding is about you and your husband, not about everyone silently wondering if anyone has realized "Jane" is really "Jack". The focus should be on you two.
If you want to pull of the funny switch, have him go to the bachelorette party or some other venue other than the main event.

This sounds like the most dysfunctional wedding I have ever heard of. Sure have Clinger at your wedding, and clowns and balloons, and perhaps a pony ride.

It would be in bad taste to dress your male best friend as a girl. You can change traditions by having him as the brides best man maybe, but allow him to be himself.

I think the issue of transvestite dressing would overshadow your whole wedding have him dress as a groomsman and walk just behind you in the line

It's your wedding, do what ever you want, but wouldn't it be more exciting if EVERYBODY in the wedding party crossdressed?
