"In the early 1900s, the company wasn't known by its familiar fowl moniker and sold other foods in addition to tuna. But fortune shined on them when they became the first food company to can "light tuna." The mildly flavored fish became the company's trademark product, and its owners sought a catchier name for their canned fish. When asked about the flavor of the new light tuna, many customers remarked, "it tastes like chicken," -- so the company began to market the light tuna as "Chicken of the Sea." The ad campaign was so successful that the company eventually renamed itself after their famous slogan. "

I think "chicken of the sea" specifically applies to that one brand, and was probably meant to imply something about the purity and taste of that tuna opposed to other kinds. Not that I personally think of chicken as being so terribly "pure"!

You know- there are laws against false advertising. Those cans just might be filled with chickens. Ones that were- not beheaded, but rather forcefully asphyxiated in salt water. And when they drowned, they swallowed all that sea water, hence the tuna taste.

I really do not know, Chicken of the Sea, sounds rather perplexing. Sort of like Boot Polishers of the Outhouse Brand Typing Paper, I saw that on Saturday Night Live and I thought that it was funny. Good luck on that question:) Auf Wiedersehen
