That's a pretty dang good question.....I've never thought about that.
I really can't see an advantage in being smarter. I'm pretty danged smart, IQ around 150 and can pretty much figure out whatever I want to. If I was smarter I might even think more and I think too much now. I tend to see and understand the complexities of everything.....and that alienates me from the populace a lot of the time.
If I was dumber I'd probably just accept more things on belief and faith and not think about the future and its problems and I'd just take things one day at a time more because that would be the extent of my capabilities. I'd be just like everybody else. I'd probably get laid a lot more. So......I'd definitely vote for dumber..... ;)

My main drive is contact and intimacy. So far my IQ (somewhere around 140) hasn't been very helpful. As a kid I got beaten up when my grades were too high. Needless to say that's not the kind of contact I was looking for.

Now, I'm happy to say there hasn't been any beating up for the past 30 years (I was intelligent enough to choose the part of underachiever), but succes can still make me feel uneasy.

I suppose there are two sides to intelligence: on one hand it helps me approaching people, being supportive and actually making a difference once in a while. It also has an isolating effect though and a sense of loneliness remains as I have difficulties in finding friends who can relate to my personal issues.

Of course the choice of trading IQ for contact is strictly hypothetical, but I don't think I would if I had the opportunity. The giving is the best part in any relationship. It makes me a better person so l rather stick to knowing at least I have something precious to share.

I agree with zenhighway. Sometimes I wish I was less intelligent. The more intelligent you are, the more you understand how the world works. You're more aware of the negative things in life and this in turn can make you depressed.

They say "ignorance is bliss". This may actually be the case. People who are not that intelligent just wake up and go through the day without understanding or contemplating the world around them.

At times I wish not to be so intelligent because of a lack of common sense, as does my oldest child, which the other children remind us of often and spouse calls me Mrs. Encyclopedia, which is embarrassing to hear around friends.
To be normal would be great if it made me forget about childhood and other depressing events in life.
Intelligent people bear the responsibility of doing what is morally correct.
On the other hand, a desire to learn about many things, drives life in many directions and boredom is unknown but sleep is a bit difficult sometimes when a person thinks too much.

If it's a choice between more and less, then 'more' it would be, all else remaining the same. Intelligence by no means equates with happiness, but offers the potential for greater understanding of just how the pieces of the Cosmos and our social fabric fit together. If used well, that can bring far more satisfaction than limitless wealth could ever realize. Most importantly, as with wealth or attractiveness, it's best to use what you have as effectively as you can ;)

A nice quote from the Bible actually helps here:
"For in much wisdom is much grief; and he who increases knowledge increases sorrow" (Ecclesiastes 1:18) [by the way, no, I am not Christian]

I like knowing the things I know, i even hunger to learn more and more and more. That knowledge helps and hurts. You know how to handle certain cituations better, but the ssaddness of certains things you learn remains with you. So despite the unhappy things associated with knowledge, I think I'd rather be more intelligent. Hopefully others would take the knowledge they have and at least put it to good use to reduce further sorrow for the following generations.

Yes it would have been nice to be more intelligent. But if I had to make a choice, I rather have a mind that is willing to learn than a mind that is not. The wealthiest men, who have lived on this earth, were and are not necessary super intelligent but they are very creative. When opportunity knocks, they open the door. Look at Trump!!

intelligence is a relative term. however high intelligence i may have, there would still be people who are more intelligent than me. and the very realization that i am less intelligent than somebody, indicates a level of high maturity in me that can lead me to improve further. instead of wondering if i should be less intelligent or more intelligent, i need to think of how usefully and purposefully i can apply the current level of intelligence that god has gifted me !

You always want to be less intelligent. Because, their will always be room to grow intellectually.
Notice the highly intelligent do not have any form of common sense whatsoever. Look at what is leading the government. Intellect/money.

Assuming spirituality is obtained through DMT. You also assume DMT can lead to some sort of special side of life. We really don't know anything. We could all be data for example. What we think we know, is that our life, viewed through our conscious, is a physical world and can be observed. If there was a spiritual world, humans would have almost no connection to it. We are connected to a physical world, therefor we should continue to observe and focus on it. In fact, one may argue that being more spiritual makes you more intelligent.
