I think it is due to the maximum captial rule.
Everyone knows that LeBron is much more valuable than Big Ben, right?

The Cav's and LeBron both know three things.
1. LeBron's income on the court is only a small portion of his total income. There are endorsements, and commercials, etc.
2. If LeBron is payed too much money, then there isn't the cash to bring in other good supporting characters under the cap that can help win Championships.
3. Lebron will make a ton more money from the endorsements in the long run if they win Championships than in the short run if he maxes out his contract with the Cav's and the are always also runs.

It's not the same contract Lebron has a 80 million dollar + contract Ben gets a 60 million and is considered over payed. The Pistons didn't even offer Ben that stupid offer. Anyway the Cavs, Heat and The Nuggets all gave their star players the max offer.

Because Ben Wallace has been the center on a championship team, the Pistons, the same team the clamped down on LeBron the last two games of their playoff series. LeBron will make the big bucks when he takes over the series, like Dwayne Wade did.
