Is there a low cost service available that my telemarketing firm, which is not in the same state as my business, could use that would show a local number on the caller ID? I believe that just having a local number pop up on the caller ID would help penetrate at least 50% of the businesses that are not picking up their phones. I tried calling ringcentral.com but they focus mainly on inbound calls and it would be very time consuming and expensive to use their service for my particular needs. I need a service that would allow my telemarketing firm to appear local like my business is, instead of being perceived as an out of town pest.

Many of the IP-based phone services like Vonage and StarPower (I think they changed their name recently?) will allow you to pick whatever phone number you want, in whatever area code you want. My Vonage line costs $25 a month plus tax and includes all the domestic long distance I could ever use, plus you can add more numbers to the same line, so you could have multiple numbers associated with one line. I am not sure how it works with Caller ID; my Vonage line comes up with my name and number for everyone I have called, but I think a lot of the Caller ID quirks come from the recipient's service and not the caller's. So you may also want to check with the calling company the recipient is using and see what they recommend or how their Caller ID handles these IP phone service calls.
