I dont know for sure about breaking water but I do know that when I was ready to have my daughter the doctor told me that walking alot can help things move along faster. And an old wives tale says that if you eat something spicy it can put you into labor.
I did that around 8pm at night and the next morning I went to my prenatal c/u I was 4 cm dilated fully thinned out and everything went fast from there. the doctor did break my water for me but as long as your into active labor. the doctor can break your water for you! it doesnt hurt at all atleast not for me.

You shouldn't even consider trying to begin your labor until you are around 40 weeks pregnant or overdue. That's because your due date could be inaccurate by a few weeks, and if you start your labor before 40 weeks, you might give birth to the baby before he is ready to thrive outside the womb.
Several things can be done that might make you have contractions and start your labor, but they'll only work if your body is ready. If your body isn't prepared to go into labor, you can try as much as your heart desires, but you will only frustrate yourself.
You could try walking,Nipple stimulation, or Spicy food
i have enclosed a website for you :) I have 2 kids and all of these helped me:)

Natural?
The technique that a doctor uses to artificially rupture your membranes is "natural"--they just poke!
If you're asking if you can do this yourself at home, you must be crazy.
DON'T TRY TO INDUCE YOUR LABOR YOURSELF OR BREAK YOUR OWN WATER.
FYI, in response to a post above: a study came out a few weeks ago that proved that not only does sex NOT induce labor, but it can actually delay it.
And cod liver oil/castor oil are dangerous AND useless. Castor oil will give you a raging case of diarrhea. Which can lead to dehydration. Which can lead to contractions. Of the Braxton-Hicks variety UNLESS your baby and body are close to labor anyway. In which case wouldn't you rather be continent and hydrated while you're in labor? Seems like a no-brainer to me...

Is is never a good idea to break your water on purpose. It is a natural process and can lead to infections if you try and break it the wrong way. Just let nature takes it coarse. The doctor will break it when the time is right while you are hospitalized.

For cripes sakes leave things the h e l l alone! You risk profound injury to yourself and your unborn child if you muck about trying to rush things this way! Your water will break when it's time, on it's own, without help from you - and that is absolutely for the best!

Nope. No way to do it naturally, although semen can help it along. Sounds gross but the acidity can help break down the bag of waters.

Walking will help push the baby down further into the birth canal and sex can usually help as well

Orange juice with a little cod liver oil mixed in with it. And old wives tale I guess...but it worked for my wife with both kids.
