I am a very conflicted recent graduate with an Enlish major. I realized that there is not much to do with a ba in eng. and from research online and heresay I am leaning towards entering law school. However, I have always been interested in fashion and magazines but I want a well paying job in the end (student loans!). I also don't live an area (I live in Connecticut) that has a lot of opportunities for someone interested in fashion. What should I do? I need serious advice, feedback, personal experience. Just serious responses please. Thanks.

Law school is very expensive and it would take you awhile to get through school and you have to pass the bar. There is this really good fashion school in NYC. You should probably think about relocating to somewhere where fashion is big like California or NYC or Florida. Its a very good price. Other fashion schools are way expensive. You should check it out.

You should go to the careerbuilder website and see about jobs in the fashion. Usually to work in fashion you have to have some type of work/ or school experience in fashion.Unless that is your very very knowledgeable about fashion.
Good luck! I hope you find something!

There is always time for law school pursue your dreams (if it is economically feasible). Law school is VERY expensive (unless you get great scholarships) and you will be saddled with that debt for many years to come. It would suck if you went to law school and realized that you didn't want to practice after all. Have you considered interning or shadowing someone in the fashion insdustry or the law field. You may be surprised to find out that the practice of law is really not what it looks like on tv. There is tons of reading (especially in law school) and tons of writing. If you want to, go visit a law school for the day and sit in a class. That may help you make your decision. Have you taken the LSAT? Make sure you take a prep course so that you can do well. (This will help with scholarships). Good Luck!

You can actually combine a job in law with a job in fashion and magazines if you play your cards right - why don't you act as legal advisor, etc. for a fashion magazine or designer? I am sure there are firms like that that have these sorts of clients. I'm in the exact same situation and am looking at law school too (darn that BA in English!). I love animals and am also passionate about civil rights - I will try and work with these things in my law career. You can make it happen!

I am currently in law school....got a BA in political science..so I was in the same boat you are in...needing to go to grad school. I was interested in law...and politics, etc..so law school made perfect sense for me. My experience with law school so far: tons of reading. And not terribly exciting reading either...but it is interesting. Lots of details, lots of studying. No homework except for the reading..in general. Need to be prepared for class, teachers will call you out. There is only one grade, and that is your final exam...so no pressure there.. :)

I like law school, and you are guaranteed a nice income, steady job when you get out. And there are a TON of things you can do with a law degree without ever stepping foot in court.

Lots of schools will let you observe a law class in session, check the website of the school you would be interested in.
But: if your heart isn't in it, it won't be rewarding...and that is far more important than money.... Good luck deciding!
