because i have the responsibility to. i am a member of the militia, per Federal law.
TITLE 10 - ARMED FORCES
Subtitle A - General Military Law
PART I - ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL MILITARY POWERS
CHAPTER 13 - THE MILITIA
Sec. 311. Militia: composition and classes
(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section
313 of title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are -
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.

my state also recognizes my right to keep and bare arms for my self defense.

as i am a law abiding citizen, who had submitted and been approved for a concealed carry license, why should i not have guns? they are an enjoyable Hobie to collect, learn some history, and they could save one of my Friends or family some day.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

In other words, to keep us protected from foreign enemies and a potentially oppressive government, we are allowed to not only own but also carry weapons. This right is not reserved for "hunters" or "police" or just the "military", it is the right of the PEOPLE.

Police can only get there after the violence has occurred. You have the right to defend yourself and your property if someone intrudes upon you. You have the right to lock your door, chain your possessions up, take care of yourself and your livelihood.
You can only defend yourself before the fact of the attack and not after. This is known as the right to bear arms.

Because the constitution allows us to bear arms. Some have them for security, others for hunting.
