Pure self-centered laziness is the reason people leave their grocery carts all over the parking lot and block off parking spaces for new customers. Especially, and I speak from experience here, they have a tendency to dump their carts in the "disabled" parking places, maybe because they're closest to the store, maybe because they're often empty, and maybe out of their pure disrespect for the disabled. I can tell you, as a man who has lost one leg due to a train accident, and one who uses a prosthetic leg, that is a very cruel laziness on the part of such customers, and I'm sorry I can't visit the same difficulty upon them as was visited upon me one day at work when my engineer absent-mindedly backed our train up over my leg. For whatever part your question and my answer can help correct any part of the problem you address, I'll be thankful to God forever. God Bless you.

Because people are lazy and just don't care. In my town about 1 year ago we got a store named ALDI it cost .25cents to get a cart ( you put the quarter in the cart) and then when you take the cart back you get your .25 cents back you never see shopping carts in the parking lot. I think that is a good idea for all stores. I'm sure it won't cut down on all the carts being left but it might help some.

High prices have nothing to do with people leaving carts outside. It's the unpleasant little thing called supply and demand as well as greed.
As far as the cart thing. Sometimes people are parked way out at the other end of the lot and they just don't want to bother with pushing it back. A lot of places provide those spaces for carts.
That's what those people get paid to do, it is part of being a courtesy clerk It's not like they send half the store out chasing carts. 1-2 people go out there every hour and bring carts in. They are required to be out there for at least 30 minutes. They love it, it gives them a break and it gives them a chance to stretch a little.
I remember what it was like. Being a courtesy clerk was one of my very first jobs.

Because people are lazy and unconcerned about screwing up parking spaces for other shoppers and creating more work for employees. The store supplies the shopping carts as a service. A considerate person would be appreciative and put the cart back.

Because 94.8% (figure guessed at) of humans are lazy s.o.b.'s that only think of themselves. They've achieved their goal; ie: shopping and putting their sh*t in their car, so as far as they're concerned-they are finished.... leave the cart where they may, let it run into someone else's vehicle, so what... they are finished! They move on to the next shopping lot, and b*t*h & moan if someone elses cart bumps their car... and the circle continues.
These are the same lazy s.o.b.'s that rather wait 5 minutes for a parking space as someone finishes putting their stuff in their car because they happen to have a close parking space, than drive a few spaces over and park and walk a few extra feet.

Laziness.
Most of the stores around here have you insert a dollar in order to release the cart, and it's returned as an incentive when you bring it back.

I had a relative tell me once that you shouldn't put them away, because if we did that all the time, the guy who collected them would be out of a job.
So, I just thought I would share that with you to help you understand the mentality of some people.
But usually, obviously the reason is people are simply LAZY (or in a rush or unable or whatever).

Because they're lazy or are in a rush to go home. I, for one, always put my shopping cart (for those rare times I do go) away. It's pretty careless of them not to have the common courtesy to put them away. I can imagine how hard it must be for the workers to gather them up and how little they get paid to do it.

It provides more jobs for the community. I've seen a few retards pushing carts, it's the only work they can get. It's good for the economy and supermarkets aren't in a giant finacial crisis, they can afford the cost.

I'd rather have someone else pay higher prices for my convenience, and I really don't care if employees help other people or not after I lazily leave my cart wherever I want.
