Siouxsie of Siouxsie and the Banshees of course! She basically started the genre. And Evanescence is not goth, it's hard rock.

I'll say what everyone else said, Evanescence is pop rock/alternative rock.

We'd start off with Joy Division and Siouxsie & the Banshees. Work our way to Bauhaus. We could say that David Bowie had an influence, but he was glam rock. Later on it would probably be The Sisters of Mercy and Fields of the Nephilim. We could also say that The Cure had influence, but I'd still consider them a pop/alternative rock band, even in the earlier days. Gothic Rock has long been dead, and most of these other bands are in some other genre.

As much as I like Legendary Pink Dots, they're more of a psychedelic and experimental band.

Evanescence isn't really goth, as you yourself note, by calling it metal.

If you want a female goth, Souixsie Souix.

In general, I'd say all the guys from Bauhaus.

But I'm not a huge goth fan, so I'm sure there are more obscure people I'm not aware of.

What? Oh, you mean current... still... What? Ok, I'm old so i would have to recommend some oldies first. If you want true goth, not this pop/goth bullsh*t that makes no sense, try Bauhaus or Siouxsie & the Banshees or the Legendary Pink Dots.

I would say Evanescence, they are not pop! That's an insult, and Otep, she's not completely goth but whatever.
