Hijacked? That's one way to put it. Another is to say that the American "democracy" has become (or is fast becoming) an oligarchy, that is a "government by the few, a small faction of persons or families."
Think about it. Corporate American, and many of its greedy CEOs, now control (1) the public media, for they own the big newspapers and magazines and, of course, set policy and give a sense of direction as to what the public is informed of and what is kept secret; (2) the Congress, esp. the Republicans but also many Democrats who depend upon their financing to run their campaigns and are coddled by lobbyists, almost all of whom are paid handsomely by these affluent CEOs; (3) the Presidency, esp. Bush whose livelihood has always been provided by corporate wealth, NOT by his own earnings or business successes--and Cheney, whose Halliburton wealth got him where he is and will keep him where he wants to be; (4) the court system, esp. the Supreme Court, who now have a majority beholden to and commited to these corporate influences; (5) much of the work being done by the US government through outsourcing, esp. in Iraq where Halliburton has made its millions with very little accomplishment to show for it and many, many cost overruns and examples of faulty accounting and auditing, but also in New Orleans, where corporations have profited from government money spent there more than the victims of the hurricane and flooding; (6) the election system, where Diebold promises to deliver results for corporate endorsed candidates and then deliver them through electronic shenanigans (ck Ohio in 2004, for example); and (7) right-wing think tanks and fundamentalist Christians whose work is financed by these corporate CEOs and whose support is bought by promises that their wishes will be enacted into legislation and/or Presidential favor.
Christian votes are bought by promises to outlaw gay marriage, teach creationism, put prayer back in schools and the Ten Commandments on courthouse walls, and reverse judicial decisions on abortion. Now, in many cases, these corporate executives do not agree with these positions or they do not care about these values but they make promises to manipulate the opinions and votes of the lower middle classes, who otherwise would be much better supported by a liberal agenda than the corporate agenda, whose jobs are being outsourced to foreign countries and given illegally to immigrants who will work for low wages and no fringe benefits rather than being deported by to their home countries.
Just exactly who is the Bush family in league with? Besides these corporate executives, of course? It's hard to say. One of the sad things about this administration is that they have been proven to be engaged in secrecy and dishonesty so often that we are prone to believe any number of conspiracy theories. For several generations, the Saudi ruling family has been among their best friends and staunchest supporters. It seems to me that they would like exactly the same sort of society in the US. The Saudi family rules and wallows in cash. The common folk are kept under control by a fundamentalist Islamic group, whose doctrines and moral codes the Saudi family ignores outside the public eye, in their own estates and in foreign countries. I suspect that's what the Bushes and their sycophants want. I expect they are in league with the Saudis and have been all along. And I suspect that's why the bin Laden family escaped the US so quickly and easily after 9/11 and why Osama bin Laden has not yet been captured. But, of course, that's largely speculation on my part. I offer it only as an example of the kind of conspiracy theory we've been tempted to believe to explain the recent wildly disastrous and chaotic decision-making in the US inner circles.
Hinjacked? You bet. I fear that, if the oligarchy survives one more national election (which it is likely to do) and certainly if it survives 2008, our children and grandchildren will never experience the democratic republic we have been taught the Founding Fathers established in our Constitution. They will grow accustomed to an oligarchic regime and to cardboard elections (like those we've read about in Russia and other countries).
Hijacked? That's your word. But it's not a bad one at all to describe what is happening--or maybe has already happened.

It doesn't seem to be the president's fault? Quit watching Fox News. And since I know people in New Orleans, I've got news for you, if there's billions going into New Orleans, they are just passing through and not stopping to do any work because the levee is still temporary and nobody expects it to survive another hurricane. The US government was Hijacked a long time ago. Some people seem to think it happened when Kennedy was killed but I think it happened around early 1900's and that J.P. Morgan and J.D. Rockefeller had something to do with it. It's just so evident now because the house of cards they built is crumbling.

It is the right-wing media those currently in power that you should look to. Have you ever wondered who owns the news companies around the world? Check it out. Why are you told the things your told? Should you believe them? If you don't have the time to check it out yourself, then I think you should take the time to read "Lies, and the Lying Liars Who Tell Them" by Al Franken. Your eyes will be opened, and your questions answered truthfully (although with a little sarcasm). Funny book, but factual.

have you ever been smoking something you ought to not? Conservatives are courageous and dependable to the united states, not the flag. Neo-cons refers to those who were liberals, got here to their senses as they matured, then became conservative. not all Republicans are conservative. you've your questions mixed. Conservatives, after Ronald Reagan, did not administration the authorities. Republicans not in any respect managed the media. If something, the media has been uncontrolled, fantastically interior the consistent grievance of Republicans, and President Bush.
