I don't know. I realize it is suppose to be 1/2 full, but almost always it is 1/2 empty. I pray for the 1/2 full and just when I start to think it is 1/2 full, something happens and I'm back to 1/2 empty again. It is a visious cycle. :)

It depends entirely upon how the glass reached its current state of being. If it started full of water and then half was dumped out, then the glass is half empty (/half emptied). If the glass started empty and was only filled half way to begin with, then the glass is half full.

Another way to look at it is this: the glass is entirely full; half with air, half with water.

1/2 full. No glass is empty it's half full of water and half full of air.

This is an over-rated figure of speech.

There is no such thing as half empty. Please think about this so people can stop saying that it is half empty. Empty means that there is nothing inside.

emp·ty ( P ) Pronunciation Key (mpt)
adj. emp·ti·er, emp·ti·est

Holding or containing nothing.
Mathematics. Having no elements or members; null: an empty set.
Having no occupants or inhabitants; vacant: an empty chair; empty desert.
Lacking force or power: an empty threat.
Lacking purpose or substance; meaningless: an empty life.
Not put to use; idle: empty hours.
Needing nourishment; hungry: “More fierce and more inexorable far/Than empty tigers or the roaring sea” (Shakespeare).
Devoid; destitute: empty of pity.

In our case we are talking about definition 1. holding or containing nothing. You cannot contain half of nothing. Let's all start a movement to stop ridiculous sayings like this. Thanks.

It depends!

If you need the water desperately, then it is half empty, if it getting empty is a bad thing. If you are filling the glass, and your goal is a full one, it is half full.
