I'm 37 weeks with my second and I've been getting some kicks that are way more powerful than my first ever gave me. My midwife told me that the baby is facing out (its front to my front, its back to my back) which can result in some rough kicks because you get feet and knees right in the belly. She suggested I spend 10-15 minutes a day on my hands and knees which will cause the baby to flip around. So far its working.

Well, babys pick up most of their weight in the 3rd trimester. If you are worried about the size, just ask your doctor. As far as the kicking being painful, you're probably experiencing braxton hicks contractions as the baby kicks, either that or the baby is in an awkward position. Genetics do play a role in how big your baby will be. Also, many other factors such as a healthy diet, exercise, alcohol use, and smoking play a big role in the health and development of your baby.

It's all about positioning. You won't know your baby's weight until he's born... chances are if you and then your 2 year old were a healthy weight this one will be too.
I'd assume those tougher kicks really depends on what your baby is hitting. Is he clipping your ribs? Also, second pregnancies don't always have the luxury of really tight abdominal muscles. Not to worry, he's bound to run out of room in the coming weeks, becoming tightly contained and unable to get you with a full blow.
You're in the home stretch!
Best of luck for your last few weeks, birth and beyond.

I'm 31 weeks also and it's perfectly normal to have you baby kick so hard it hurts. I had a kick the other day that almost brought me to my knees, not to mention the kick that hit my scatic nerve. That hurt so bad I couldn't breathe.
3 lb 7 oz is pretty normal. Maybe a little large, but not much. It is somewhat genetic but I wouldn't worry too much about it. If you're really bothered by it, mention your worry to your doctor.

Every pregnancy is different. Just celebrate that your baby is obviously active and strong. Maybe you have the first female Pro Bowl kicker in there!
As far as being big, 3#7oz @ 31 weeks sounds about right ... your baby will pick up most of his/her weight in the last 4-6 weeks. You might have another 8 lb-er on the way! Congratulations =)

i am 37 weeks pregnant and no the baby is not big. Yes, it's normal for the kicks to be painful. it just means you have a strong, healthy baby. trust me my little girl is doing the same thing. she weighs 51/2 to six pounds. your baby is right on schedule. on the 30th week the baby should weigh about 3 lbs. don't worry. my husband and I are large people that were small babies but she is not too big. she's perfect. can u tell I am excited about becoming a mommy for the first time? congrats on your little tyke..

Yes sometimes they can hurt as baby gets stronger, the imporant thing is to track babys movements and report any unusual changes to your Dr asap. Also make sure to do your kick counts every day as well. Good luck.

every pregnacy is different. I didn't have the same experiance with the two that I had. My son slept in my ribs constantly for the last 2 months and my ribs were bruised for awhile after he was born. It's normal, and I know the kicking gets very old and painful.
Best of luck to you!!

Ahh, he's gonna be a soccer player.... LOL
No, it's normal. My daughter was born with some toned calves, and still has them till this day...
She did some Tai Kwon Do in my uterus... hee hee
And oh, if this is a second or third birth, ect. You tend to feel kicks more easily and harder, your uterus is thinner than your first pregnancy

Yes, this is completely normal. This pregnancy can be very different from your first pregnancy due to infant size, position, etc. I'm sure all is well, but if you are concerned, why not call your doctor's answering service and have them page the doctor. Good luck!
