As soon as guys hit junior hockey they no longer have to wear a full face shield. How come women that play pro hockey or international hockey (the olympics) can't go with out the full face sheild?

They don't want the extra protection. The rules of their game dictate that they have to wear a full sheild.

It's a sexist rule.

There is no good reason.

Sorry, I'll expand on that. For the record, I don't believe any of the below, but as a society we do, sadly:

- Women's looks are more valued than men's, and therefore need protecting
- It's disturbing to watch women get hurt or disfigured
- Women can't take the injuries; they're not tough enough to handle a fractured jaw or cheekbone, or 30 stitches in their lip, cheek and mouth
- If a woman doesn't make it as a hockey player at least she'll have value as an attractive person afterwards and still get married

It's too bad that people really think this, but I'm pretty sure that's the reason. It's a stupid, sexist rule. The equipment regulations should be the same for women and men.

canucklehead -- not true. If I had a choice of full cage versus a half shield, I'd go half shield at the drop of a hat. I'm sure the women playing Olympic hockey probably feel the same way.

No brainer, right? See the puck/don't see the puck? Why would we choose more visual obstruction?

I'd always wear half shield... I want to protect my eyes. But I want the choice.

The decision should rest with the players, and the rules should be the same for both men's and women's teams.

Don't know. I would love to see them play without them, if they wanted. They also need to let them be more physical, and hit more. Its hockey for crying out loud, let them go to war.

I don't know about pro or olympic, but you can in mens league. I never would go without though, I paid too much for my veneers.
