I really like primates. Wether they're chimps, apes, orangutans, gorillas, etc. And I've gotten around to wondering: aren't apes and gorillas the same thing? I watched Tarzan and they are all gorillas. Then I watch Planet of the Apes (great movie) and the apes look exactly like the gorillas in Tarzan. Aren't they the same thing. If they are, sorry for sounding so stupid, but I have to know!

Gorilla is an ape,a group of primate that evolve during Miocene(or Pliocene,if my infosource was right). They have many differences from the monkeys.Their hair sorter and not as much as monkey's.Sometimes they walk on their hind legs, and they have more intelligence more than any land animal that ever lived(except problably elephant),in fact, they are first evolved creature that have well-developed brain. At Holocene, this group developed new genus that called Homo sapiens or "Wise Man",but,in fact, they are not wise, and now these primate become #1 Destroyer of The World.

(Back to Gorilla topic)
Gorilla is not ape,and ape is not gorilla, ape is a name of a group of animal and Gorilla is name of biggest species of ape.If you see the alien ape at Planet of the Apes,it's only imagination about outer-space group of primate that have ability to talk like human.

"Ape" is a more generic term denoting a higher level of primates than monkeys most commonly distinguished by their lack of a tail.

Gorillas, Orangutans, Chimpanzees are all apes.

So, a gorilla is an ape, but an ape is not (necessarily) a gorilla.

The Apes are a guitar-less quartet from Washington DC who create a raw and primal bombast of hard-rock mysticism and thunder with the power of heavy bass, Nord Electro keyboard, and energetic live performances.

The great apes (family PONGIDAE) include the gorillas, chimpanzees, bonobos, and orangutans. The lesser apes (family HYLOBATIDAE) include the gibbon and siamang.

They are the same thing. The term apes pretty much represents all the primates.
