Long story short, I live in southwest Kansas. The City took my evergreens and oak trees to put up a bike path next to my house. Now the City wants to put a redbud tree in MY yard next to the path. How much room does it need to make a strong transplant and room to grow? From the driveway to the path is only about two feet apart. From the path to our garage is about three to four feet apart. Is that enough room for it to survive? Please help...a lady from the City will be here in an hour. Thanks for your help.

I am looking forward to getting the tree. But where I want it, I am not sure there is enough room for it. It would be in a spot surounded by cement (my driveway and the new bike path). There is roughly a 2 x 6 dirt patch between the two that I want to put it. Is that enough room for it? There are no other trees in that area so it would get alot of sun.

Red Bud trees have a small root ball so they really dont need a whole lot of room to grow. I believe they are one of the most beautiful trees. In the spring they have beautiful airy tiny purple flowers. After the flowers are gone the have beautiful Heart shaped leaves. It is sometimes called the love tree. I have one that I planted in my front yard 4 years ago. Keep the bottom branches pruned and shaped.

Redbud trees don't grow so very large, not like evergreens and oaks. They are beautiful in the spring and they grow wild in the Ozarks. I bought one this year to put in my back yard. Don't fret, I am sure you will enjoy it once you see it when it blooms.

Redbuds can grow as big as a crabapple in full sun with no competition, or stay as small as a dogwood in the shade of other trees. The more crowded it is, the more it will stay delicate and airy.
