" Uncle Jesse's last name at the beginning of the show was Cochran, reportedly since one of the producers was a fan of singer Joe Cochran. However, this was changed after Season One, when he came to be called Jesse Katsopolis. The name change was due to John Stamos wanting the Jesse character to better reflect his Greek heritage."

Yep, early on, Jesse was called Jesse Cochran. Later, when the producers decided that he was Greek, they changed his last name to Katsopolis.

The Katsopolis fits better anyway...

Jesse Cochran and the rippers?? Nahhhh

How can you miss Full House, it goes on ad nauseum on Nick at Night. You can't get away from it, along with Roseann and the Fresh Prince.

But check this out.. it may be what you are thinking of... apparently on the show he was originally named "Hermes" but convinced his mother to change it to Jesse because the kids made fun of him in school.

Yes, they changed his name to make him proud of his ethnic heritage. It is explained on the DVD set in one of the commentary tracks or somewhere on the disc.
