What is the point of being goth. Can anyone explain it to me?

I did not mean to offend anyone but it was just a question. I understand about some stuff but more and more kids around my school have been turning goth. And i was just curious why.

Personal preference. Just like some people choose to be preppy, or punk, or thug, or anything else. It's just the style they choose.

Some people are "goth" in the sense that it makes them feel closer to the spiritual world. Others do it to show their depression, and others do it simply to piss off their parents. Whatever the reason, it's up to each individual. There's no single answer.

Usually I only answer tech questions, but I'll give this a shot, seeing as how I was once married to a woman with gothic tendencies.

The point of being goth, to put it simply, is just to be an individual and stand out from the rest of the crowd. Even if it is in a uniform fashion.

Some people as become goth simply for shock value. They like the attention they receive from wearing white makeup, black eyeliner, and black nail polish.

Some just do it for attention. They feel as though society has neglected them, and so they take drastic steps (referring again to the makeup) to draw attention to themselves.

I hope this answers your question.

What's the point of dressing the way you do? Everyone dresses different whether you realize or not. Some people won't wear skirts, and some won't wear sweaters. So if they choose to wear Tripp pants then don't say anything about it unless you're going o ask someone else or yourself why you don't shop at Macy's or JCPenny's.

Again with the stereotypes.. ITS NOT ALL ABOUT THE CLOTHING, PEOPLE! It's a movement that began during the Renaissance in Europe. Enjoy the source and if figure out if you truly are one or not. If you're just a poseur.. find someone else's subculture to destroy.
